It is very important to set goals guys. Without them we have nothing to work toward. I don’t want to sound cliche but "that which gets measured gets improved." When we have a goal that we are working to attain it drives motivation into our workout. I've seen a lot of clients quit and lose focus because they did not have a target. Rather you want to lose weight or gain weight you should pick a size that you want to wear. It is super important to be specific. Even those who want to maintain can set goals. You may want to stay between 140 and 150 pounds. Performance goals are a great way to stay on track as well. You may want to put up 310lbs on the bench press. Whatever it is please set a unique and specific goal for yourself. I've seen a lot of people put their fitness on the back-burner because they didn't have anything to strive for.

Abs Like King Leonidas
As a trainer a lot of people tell me they want a 6-pack. No problem. Just remember to do your cardio. Why cardio and not crunches you ask. The reason is because we all have 6-packs. If you can't see it when you look in the mirror then it is a matter of removing the layer of fat from over your abs. we can do all types of abs workouts to build the muscle but until we get the fat off we will not see what we want. The answer is Cardio, Cardio, and more Cardio. Once you drop to about 10% body fat you will have a cool looking 6-pack. until then lets keep burning calories.

Take A Break
No matter how much of an animal you are at the gym you need to make rest a part of your fitness program. As a trainer every once in a while I get client that loves to push to the brink. Personally I love those clients but we must remember that we need our rest at night and also we need a break from the gym every once in a while. It not only gives your body a break but it will give you a break mentally. Once you get back to the gym you will be revitalized and can hit the bricks harder then ever.

Motivation
Billy Beck III, personal trainer to Manny Ramirez and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, once said
"A TRY is and same as a LIE"
People who only try do not achieve. Sometimes we lie to ourselves so we feel better. We might find ourselves in a constant state of TRYING to loose weight instead of actually losing it. The 1st step to achieving your fitness goal is to right it down. Once we get that on paper we can work toward it. So instead of TRYING achieve your goals, treat them like Nike and Just Do It.

Protein! Protein! Protein!
Hydro Whey Protein is the best protein I have had to date. It is protein broken down in its simplest form. What that means is that it goes right into you muscle, where you need it. I noticed that my energy levels at the gym were raised from it. I have tried a number of different proteins but this one is the best so far. You need protein for your muscles there is no doubt about that, but rather you are trying to get lead or bulk up you might want to try this stuff out. I do try to show you guys affordable solutions to fitness but this stuff is a little pricey. If you want to try it but save a couple bucks try looking for it online instead of the supplement store.

South Mountain
As a personal trainer I hear a lot of feedback on cardio. The number one thing i here about cardio is "I can do it but I get bored". If your here in the Tempe/Phoenix area i recommend hiking. A great mountain to start off with is South Mountain. There are places for the advance hiker but most trails can be trekked by the 1st time hiker. This is a great way to get your cardio and have fun at the same time.

A little help in the kitchen
If you need help with eating right check this book out. I have really practical ideas on food and fitness. It also has great information on what make certain foods good and what makes others bad. The authors of this book keep in mind that not everyone wants to buy the expensive food, so they give lots of healthy options for those on a budget.

New Gatorade
Gatorade has recently released their new drinks. They have made a before, during, and after workout drinks. The "G1" Prime drink has lots of carbohydrates to energize you before a workout. The "G2" is loaded with even more electrolytes then normal Gatorade to keep you hydrated. The "G3" is a recover drink that contains proteins to help heal your muscles after a workout. Its about time Gatorade has stepped up and made more supplements, hopefully they have that same taste the Gatorade fans love.
Reverse Curls
This workout is my new favorite for biceps. Reverse Curls are great for people who are trying to make their arms lean and cut(light weight/high reps) and also those who want create huge biceps(Heavy weight/low reps). I started doing reverse curls to get better arms but also to work on my forearms. Other then a specifically geared forearm work out, who some would say is boring, this is my favorite way to fill out my forearms

The Perfect Squat
Squats are as important as the bench press or the bicep curl but the general population can really hurt themselves unless they are preformed correctly
- Legs about shoulder width apart
- Feet pointed straight (may be uncomfortable in the beginning)
- Back straight (make sure not to arch back)
- Head in the neutral position

Wine & Fitness
I do not want to insult anyone's intelligence but if you are trying to lose weight stay away from alcohol. It stops your body from burning as much fat as you really can. Not to mention the empty calories it has. Click the picture to read the Livestrong article about wine and fitness. For some of you I know its hard but at 1st if you can stop just cut back.

If you cant make it to the gym make it P90X
I love the gym. Also, let's face it, I am a trainer that is how I make money. With that being said, if for any reason you cannot make it to the gym you definitely want to look into P90X. It is one of the best home workout videos out right now The trainer doing it is official and knows his stuff.
Live Strong
Even though Lance is being accused of juicing his website is still one the best. For accurate and free fitness info I recommend checking out the Livestrong web site. There is a lot of useful information the clears up a lot of myths out there. There is even a spot where you can track you food and your caloric intake. Very Nice

TRX System
The TRX system is something we use a lot at Iambition Fitness. It gives full range of motion and its pretty fun. It simple but if you know what your doing you can really get a great workout. If I had to pick one thing that makes it bomb, it would be the fact that you can do so many workouts with it. I'm always in the gym now but before I became a trainer I always wanted to do workouts that required equipment but I i didn't have any at home =[ This thing eliminates that problem. Its kinda ridiculous the number of exercises you can do with it.
